The Skin – It’s Use, Changes, and Needs

Uses

The skin is the second largest organ in the human body. As it is the most exposed part of the body to the environment, skin plays an important immunity role in protecting the body against germs and excessive water loss. The skin also helps with insulation, temperature regulation, sensation, synthesis of vitamin D, and the protection of vitamin B folates. The skin also plays a big role in expressing attributes about you such as race, ethnicity, age, and also contributes greatly to your beauty and attractiveness.

How to Protect and Nourish

It’s therefore advisable to nourish and protect your skin as much as you can. There are many internal and external factors that contribute to skin aging. As your skin ages, it decreases its ability to renew and heal itself efficiently. This is as a result, among many others, of receiving less blood flow and lower glandular activity. That is why you are advised to drink enough water, exercise, and eat a healthy balanced diet!

Changes in the Skin over Time

Aging skin is noted by a decrease in volume and elasticity. You can notice this as thinning skin. Due to this effect, your skin becomes easily damaged. Another cause of skin deterioration is internal and external stress. Stress leads to increased levels of cortisol in your body which degrades collagen and accelerates skin aging. Visible signs of skin deterioration include:

    • Sagging skin

    • Wrinkles

    • Photoaging which includes
        • Redness (erythema)

        • Spider veins (telangiectasia)

        • Brown discoloration (dyspigmentation)

        • Yellowing (solar elastosis)

    • Abnormal growths (keratoses)

    • Poor texture

What you can do is to embrace your skin regardless of what signs are showing up. We are all aging, and being armed with information on how your skin transforms over the years allows you to care for it better.

General Care

Diet, drinking water, and physical exercise are basic but powerful ways you can care for your skin. Good hygiene, skin care products, and skin care treatments such as massages, light therapy, cold and hot treatments, acupuncture etc, are additional ways used to enhance and care for the skin.

When it comes to skin care products, you can use different products to boost health, beauty, and wellness. There are many choices such as creams, lotions, balms, oils, gels etc. It is up to you to select what works best for your skin in regards to your skin type i.e. oily, dry, normal, or combination skin.

Skin Care Products

When it comes to lotions, creams, gels, and balms, watch out for their ingredients. Some of these products have filler ingredients that do not support your skin in a meaningful way such as moisturization, nourishment, and even protection.  If you are shopping for oils for your skin care routine, check that your product is genuine and effective. Look out for oils that list mineral oil as their main ingredient as they may not be a genuine or effective oil for the skin.

Oils for Skin Health and Care

As your skin changes and ages, it needs tender care and extra nourishment both internally and externally. Externally, a superior and effective way to care for your skin is to use a genuine natural oil.  You can also use an oil to promote skin wellness for relaxing body massages. This practice can help you to enhance blood flow in muscles which can improve your skin health and beauty, regardless of your age.

Plant oils are rich in compounds and antioxidants such as vitamins, amino acids, omega fatty acids, astringents, and antibacterial and antifungal agents.  Here are some reasons why oils tend to be one of the superior skin care products compared to products such as lotions, creams, balms or gels.

    • Repair skin and encourage skin renewal.

    • Regenerate the skin and slow down signs of aging.

    • Encourage collagen production which helps to give firmer and plumper skin.

    • Reduce the appearance of brown and dark spots.

    • Improve skin’s softness.
    • Protect skin from environmental factors.
